Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” (John 6:5-7 NLT)
Jesus tested Philip’s faith and then responded to his doubt by performing a miracle of multiplication to provide food for 5000 people without the use of money. Jesus also tests our belief in His power over our own self sufficient ability to earn money. God can perform miracles independent of our current finances earned through our own efforts. Philip the Apostle was never mentioned again in the Bible after Jesus ascended to heaven. The Lord cannot use people who doubt His power. It is impossible to please God without faith. (Hebrews 11:6 NLT) Trust in God’s power in times of limited resources and He will supernaturally intervene on our behalf for His glory.
