During another battle at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair from Bethlehem killed the brother of Goliath of Gath. The handle of his spear was as thick as a weaver’s beam! In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants. But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea. These four Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath
(2 Samuel 21:19-22 NLT)
David learned how to fight Goliath the giant and God gave David the victory. Goliath also had four brothers. David supervised the victory over these giants as the younger warriors in his army defeated them. David was an experienced giant killer and so he was able to instruct the next generation how to defeat them in battle. We all have to face different giants during our lives. A giant creates fear in our thoughts through intimidation. In this family of giants are worry, doubt, depression and illness. God gives us the victories over these giants as we stand in faith on the promises of God’s holy Word. In order to instruct others in the strategies of giant killing we have to first experience fighting the giants ourselves to celebrate God’s miraculous deliverance.
