Motives Behind the Mask

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
(Ephesians 5:11 NIV)

Masks and make up conceal identity on Halloween night.
God sees the motives behind the mask as full daylight.
The intentions of our hearts are fully exposed to Him.
So stay clear away from all forms of sin.

Shape Up With Prayer

All the time that Peter was under heavy guard in the jailhouse, the church prayed for him most strenuously.
(Acts 12:5 MSG)

Bodybuilders perform strenuous weight lifting exercises in order to develop the shape and size of their muscles. The body responds to the periodic stress of resistance training by growing larger and stronger muscles. The church is referred to in the Bible as the “body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:27) The Lord permits periodic phases of stress to be applied to His church. Stress or resistance come in the form of persecution, conflict and problems which stimulates the spiritual growth of the church. The individual members of the church react to life’s difficulties by strenuously seeking the Lord for direction and help in prayerful dialogue. Dialogue is essential for every relationship and the Lord desires a personal relationship with His people. When the Lord miraculously intervenes by answering our prayer this works to shape our faith and develop our spiritual strength. We shape up with prayer!

New Creatures

Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether);
the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
(2 Corinthians 5:17 AMP)

The world celebrates Halloween by dressing in costumes as monsters or other characters and pretending to be a different person for a few hours.
Christians celebrate life by actually becoming a new creature in Christ Jesus for all of eternity.

Wings to Fly

He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings. (Psalm 91:4)
He was like an eagle building its nest that flutters over its young.
It spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its feathers. (Deuteronomy 32:11)
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles (Isaiah 40:31)

The baby eaglet learns by imprinting as it observes the actions of its parents. The first object that the eaglet focuses on is the parents strong wings that shelter them from the cold world. The eaglet waits under the parents wings while it develops the strength of its own wings. Then it watches the parents wings fluttering over them creating wind in the nest. When the eaglet leaves the nest to fly the parents are still there to catch them if they fail. Eventually the eaglet soars high with their own wings riding on the wind currents. We mature spiritually by observing the actions of the Lord at work in our lives. The Lord covers and shelters us from evil with the faithful promises of His Word. As we wait patiently in prayer the Lord empowers us with the rushing wind of His Holy Spirit. When we attempt to step out in faith leaving our comfortable surroundings the Lord is nearby to lift us up. Finally we soar to new heights living freely in the Spirit. Wings were made to fly but nothing happens unless we try.

Storm Warning

He tore the sky open and came down
with a dark cloud under his feet.
He flew swiftly on his winged creature;
he traveled on the wings of the wind.
He covered himself with darkness;
thick clouds, full of water, surrounded him. Hailstones and flashes of fire
came from the lightning before him
and broke through the dark clouds.
Then the LORD thundered from the sky;
and the voice of the Most High was heard.
(Psalm 18: 9-13 GNT)

David the servant of the Lord, spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of King Saul who was the previous leader.
Hurricane Sandy is scheduled to strike land one week prior to the 2012 United States presidential election day. The National Hurricane Center stated today that “INTERESTS THROUGHOUT THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES AND NEW ENGLAND SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF SANDY.” The Mid-Atlantic States to New England are the stronghold of the Democratic Party. The meaning of the name “Sandy” from the Greek origin is “Defender of Mankind” The Lord is our defender and He is not a God of destruction. He loves us so much that He gives us subtle warnings to prevent us from destroying ourselves. When you sign your name to the voting ballot on November 6, 2012 consider very carefully what you are agreeing to. “How I love you, LORD! You are my defender.” (Psalm 18:1)

See the Wind

You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you have no idea where it comes from or where it’s headed next. That’s the way it is with everyone ‘born from above’ by the wind of God, the Spirit of God.”
(John 3:8 MSG)

The wind moves the grass on a beach and we feel the wind on our skin. No one can actually see the wind but we know it exists because the effects of the wind are clearly demonstrated on the earth. Similarly, the Bible days that ” no one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:18) We know God the Father exists because His divine attributes are clearly demonstrated through God the Son Jesus upon the earth. “No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. (1 John 4:12) We know God the Holy Spirit exists because of the demonstration of His love through the hearts of believers all around the world.

Keep the Peace

“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
(Matthew 5:9 MSG)

Everyone has experienced conflict in life and it is not something we look forward to. Conflict can be beneficial as the stimulus for a necessary change. Without conflict there would be no need for reconciliation. The need for reconciliation is the motive or catalyst for love. A peacemaker is a reconciler. The perfect peacemaker is the Lord Jesus Christ who for love sacrificially died for our sins on the cross in order to keep the peace with God. “Through Christ, God made peace between us and himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him.” (2 Corinthians 5:18) Following this example we should “Be kind and loving to each other, and forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ.” (Ephesians 4:32) Through love we keep the peace.

The Source

“when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might”
(2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 ESV)

The fire hydrant is the powerful water source that firefighters use to rescue people from the heat of destructive flames. The Word of God is the powerful source of Living Water that the Lord Jesus uses to rescue people from the life destroying fires of sin.

Destination Delays

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me
(Psalm 138:8 ESV)

Traveling through busy airports can be stressful.The security system is necessary to verify passenger identity. Rushing to make the plane on time after an airport security delay can be nerve racking. Life’s plans can also be delayed. Goals or dreams deferred are a source of anxiety when it may seem that we will miss an opportunity. The Lord uses life’s delays to verify our spiritual identity and to probe the depths of our character to see if we are faithful to Him. After passing this divine security screen we are free to fly to our next destination. Don’t worry about missing the flight because the Lord is not only the pilot but He is the air traffic controller ensuring that we will safely arrive on time to our destiny.

The Race

I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
(2 Timothy 4:7, 8 NLT)

Life is a race which will pass us by,
If we don’t focus on what’s beyond the sky.
Some are just spectators and won’t run at all.
Others get started but seem to stall.
They lost the vision so everything was blurred.
Too many worries and not enough Word.
Only a few finish the race to receive the prize.
So remain faithful and look for Jesus with your eyes.
