Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
(Ephesians 5:1, 2 NLT)

The stench of refuse is not very appetizing. Unless you are a fly or a
worm the first reaction to such a foul odor is to leave the scene. The Bible says that “God, you take no pleasure in wickedness; you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil.” (Psalms 5:4-6) The stench of sin causes God to leave the scene. When God leaves, His hedge of protection is removed individually, regionally and nationally. Without protection what follows is destruction. The foul odor of sin is worse in some regions then others. Portland Oregon for example has recently been ranked as the nation’s most sexually promiscuous city by a national dating site. So when a disaster such as an earthquake or tsunami strikes don’t blame God, it’s sin that stinks. We can become a pleasing aroma to God by repenting for our sins and trusting in Christ to deodorize us from the stench of all unrighteousness with His precious blood.
