But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.
(Genesis 19:26 NLT)

We all like to reminisce about the past. We remember how things used to be. We look back at the good times we used to have with old friends. The Bible gives an account of the rescue of a man named Lot and his family from an evil city that the Lord was going to destroy. God used an angel to warn Lot to quickly escape from the city and to not look back. Lot’s wife looked back and was transformed into a pillar of lifeless salt. Her desire to return to the old lifestyle permanently immobilized her from moving forward to her destiny. The apostle Paul wrote “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.(Philippians 3:13, 14) We move forward towards our new destiny in Christ by looking up and not back.
