Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:1, 2 NKJV)

The Bible says that the three wise men travelled from the East to bring gifts to the baby Jesus to worship him. We do not know exactly where they came from but Bible scholars suggest that they could have come from Persia, India or even China. They would have been riding camels for at least 800 miles. It would have taken them months if not even a year to reach Bethlehem. They left their families, their positions of employment and risked their lives in faith following a light in the darkness all to visit someone they had never even seen before.

The wise men followed that light,
In the middle of the night.
To search for someone they had not met,
At least not yet.
They travelled from afar.
Risking everything for a star.
Three gifts they would bring.
All to worship the King.
But one question remains,
From Jesus who reigns.
“You have given me your gifts and you have given me your time,
But will you give me your whole heart? I want it to be mine.”
