And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
(Ephesians 4:26, 27 NLT)

Not only is forgiveness and reconciliation important for spiritual health but the scientific research confirms that our physiology also suffers from unresolved conflict through disruption of sleep patterns and elevation of stress hormones. Changes in sympathoadrenal activation are theorized to transfer psychological stress into the development of heart disease.(1) Abnormal emotional responses to conflict such as high anxiety, hostility or depression have also been linked to cardiovascular disease. Following the pattern of the Lord Jesus we forgive those who sin against us. The devil’s foothold towards illness comes when the peace of our soul is disrupted by fear or anxiety brought upon us by unresolved interpersonal conflict. Healthy hearts forgive quickly. The picture perfect day ends as conflict fades away.
