If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than other people. Even those who don’t know God are nice to their friends.
(Matthew 5:46, 47 NCV)

A manicure is a cosmetic treatment of the hands and fingernails. The rough edges of the nails are smoothed over using friction from an abrasive filing instrument. The end results are beautifully polished and aesthetically pleasing nails that are attractive to every observer. The Lord wants His children to look beautiful and be attractive to others in love. Sometimes we experience the friction of interpersonal conflict with people who have rather abrasive personalities. It is easy to just avoid those whom we do not get along with but the Lord may place a difficult person in our path to function as an abrasive filing instrument which smoothes over the rough edges of our own character. The end result is a beautiful personality polished by the love of the Savior King Jesus on display for the world to admire. Ordinary people can love nice people but to love the unlovable is extraordinary.
