As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.”
(1 Peter 1:24, 25 NLT)

Grass grows and develops in three phases. The first phase is called the “vegetative phase”. During this phase the grass seed germinates and emerges from the dark soil to break into the light. The second phase is the “transitional phase” and involves a period of elongation as the grass blade grows upwards in height. The final phase is the “flowering phase” in which the grass reproduces itself through pollination. The Bible says metaphorically that humans are like grass. Our lives spiritually mature and develop like the grass life cycle. When we repent for our sins and receive Jesus as Lord the Bible says that we are “born again”. (John 3:3) Our lives start afresh with new meaning as the gospel of truth has germinated in our hearts and we emerge from the darkness of sin into the glorious light of a new life in Christ. During the second phase of spiritual growth the height of our understanding increases in the knowledge of God as we study His Word. In the final phase the character of Christ is evident in every believer and like a beautiful flower they attract others to reproduce new lives through the sharing of the Good News about Jesus.
