For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are.
(Deuteronomy 31:27 NIV)

The term “stiff-necked” was used by ancient farmers to describe field animals that would tighten their neck muscles in a forceful effort to resist the guidance of the farmer as they plowed their fields. We become like these senseless animals by refusing to follow the guidance of the Lord as He directs our lives. We will be much more productive workers for the kingdom of God if we cooperate with His perfect plan in the harvest of souls from the fields of the earth.
