But God was angry that Balaam was going, so he sent the angel of the Lord to stand in the road to block his way. (Numbers 22:22, 32 NLT)

Often we attempt to go ahead with our plans but things just do not seem to work out. No matter how hard we struggle to move forward situations arise to stop our progress. The Bible tells a story of a man named Balaam who tried to move forward with his plans against God’s will. The Lord sent His angel to stop Balaam’s donkey causing the animal to change course. In anger Balaam struck his donkey for its stubborn resistance to follow directions. Sometimes the Lord puts up a divine stop to prevent us from moving towards trouble. The donkey’s stubbornness to obey its masters directions can be seen as an ironic parable demonstrating how we resist God’s directions. When a divine stop ruins our plans we should stop and consider God’s plan.
