Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
(John 8:34 NIV)

Human trafficking is a horrendous crime against humanity. An estimated 2 million victims are bought and sold annually as modern-day slaves generating an estimated 9 billion dollars in profit. (1) People are held captive to suffer a life of misery and forced to do things against their will. Slavery is as old as sin. Everyone has sinned and the Lord Jesus taught that we are all slaves to sin. We are all “unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin” and prisoners of the law of sin at work within us. (Romans 7:14,23) We do not have to live miserable lives in bondage to sin which leads to eternal death. So who will rescue us from this body that is subject to death? (Romans 7:24) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) We were sold as slaves to sin but purchased as slaves of righteousness redeemed by the blood of Jesus.
