“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
(Acts 2:2-4 NKJV)

Almost everyone has been a participant at some point in their life in the disappointing verbal exchange known as an argument. Most conflict arises from the words we choose to speak which lead to division. No human can tame the tongue as it is restless and full of deadly poison.(James 3:8) On the day of Pentecost nearly 2000 years ago holy tongues of fire fell upon the 120 disciples of Jesus. After this Spirit baptism the first words were directed vertically in praise up to God as all the believers were in one accord. This directly contrasts words used horizontally for criticism, slander and gossip towards one another destroying the fellowship of believers. Only the Holy Spirit can tame the tongue and bring unity to the Church through the holy words that we choose to speak in edification of one another in love.
