“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
(Romans 8:13, Galatians 5:24 NIV)

I was at work recently celebrating a coworker’s birthday and of course there was a birthday cake. They cut the cake and started passing out pieces but I declined to eat my slice. I avoid cake because the average piece of cake has between 300 – 400 calories including about 20 grams of sugar and 20 grams of fat. Sure the cake may be delicious momentarily but soon after you pay the price feeling sluggish from a drop in blood sugar and your productivity rapidly diminishes. I chose to be healthy rather than satisfy my fleshly desires eating cake. For good physical health we exercise self control over the desires of our flesh and avoid putting junk food into our mouth. For good spiritual health we exercise self control over our tongue and avoid letting trash talk come out of our mouth.
