“After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.”
(Matthew 3:16-4:1 NLT)

Recently I was blessed to have a fantastic two week vacation but on the day I returned home to my disappointment I discovered a small flood of water on the floor, my air conditioning unit was not working and my car would not start. I have often noticed in my life that after a great blessing something happens to try and smother my satisfaction or steal my joy. This should not surprise us because the Lord Jesus experienced the same thing. Christ Jesus was incarnated in human form to be an example demonstrating how we should live. The Spirit descended upon him and he heard the audible voice of God confirming his identity. After this intense supernatural experience Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Immediately following an incredible high he went through a spiritual low. After the best comes a test. Diabolical harassment often follows a great blessing as Satan retaliates to steal our joy but the real joy of the Lord is not dependent on our external circumstances because there is no high like the most high God!
