“In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.”
(Proverbs 12:28 NIV)

While walking along a sidewalk one day I was startled to see a snake waiting on the top of a hedge. I did not know if the snake was dangerous and so I altered my course and walked far around the snake in safety. Seeing a poisonous snake in your path is not a welcome surprise. You may try and step around the snake but this is risky because you might get bit. The safest option is to choose another path avoiding the danger altogether. Along life’s journey we are often confronted the snakes of sinful temptations. We may think that we can just casually step over temptations but we risk poisoning our souls. The Bible instructs us to “not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.” (Proverbs 4:14) Choose the safe path and avoid sin.
