“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” (Galatians 5:13 NIV)

Bodybuilders spend hours in the gym lifting weights to build up their flesh. Some even use hormones to increase muscular growth but high-level bodybuilding has been associated with impaired vascular reactivity and increased arterial thickening which causes the heart to work harder to circulate the blood.(1) Excessively oversized muscles also look unusually abnormal and they are not very functional. Often we live life in the flesh pumping up the carnality of self interests as we work in our own strength to achieve apparent success. Striving for our own fleshly agenda appears abnormal to the Lord as he calls us to live in the power of his Spirit. We put unnecessary stress on ourselves pushing an egotistical agenda to satisfy our desires but this hinders our hearts ability to love one another. When we are weak God is strong. We are small and he is mighty. It’s easier to love one another in humility depending on God rather than ourselves.
