“Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)

Children in the postmodern world have lost the respect for authority. Primetime television programing glorifies disobedient children. Hollywood produces films that promote violence against law enforcement. Youth spend hours playing video games that involve senseless destruction. In 2010 “juvenile offenders were known to be involved in 8% of all homicides in the United States.” (1) When children are not learning they find time to get themselves into trouble. Violent crime committed by juvenile offenders peaks during after school hours between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. (1) Positive parental influence has declined with children being raised by single mothers. Children have been given too many choices and not enough discipline. Our adversary Satan knows that if children do not obey visible authorities that they can see on earth they will never be able to obey the Lord of heaven whom they cannot see. “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11) Divinely directing your children early will give you the peace and the delights you desire later. (Proverbs 29:17)
