We have all had times when we feel stressed out. Unexpected problems arise that we have no control over causing us to worry. We all are guilty of worrying about issues such as personal health, material possessions, and even our physical appearance but these types of prolonged thoughts over time can negatively affect our health. Worry is just an alternate term for fear or anxiety. Researchers have found that continual anxious thoughts can trigger a number of inflammatory processes in our bodies which can result in elevated blood cholesterol levels over time. High cholesterol can cause hypertension and heart disease.(1) The Bible says that “anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” (Proverbs 12:25) We are always going to have stress in life but it is our reaction to the stress that makes all the difference. The Lord Jesus has promised to give us his peace so do not “let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27) Dear Lord Jesus, “when I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”(Psalm 56:3) “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.” (2 Thess 3:16)
