Precious Thoughts

Rivers of Blessing

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”‭‭Psalm‬ ‭133:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I remember walking with my wife on the top of the Appalachian Trail in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. There we noticed that many of the mountain rocks were wet and dripping with the morning dew. The small amounts of moisture accumulated and began to create small streams of water flowing in channels down the mountain until eventually there was enough water flowing to make powerful rivers.

God loves to see his people living together in unity. Each believer’s individual anointing accumulates as they gather together in church in one accord to pray. Soon a powerful river of the living water of the Holy Spirit flows. This is called revival. It happened in Acts 2:4 and it will happen again. We must pray together and let the rivers of God’s anointing flow!

Fear Not.

Follow the Leader

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV)

Hundreds of books have been written about leadership but truly exceptional leaders are rare. Most leaders eventually will disappoint us in some way but occasionally there is a great leader that rises above all the others. Great leaders must understand their organization in a past, present, and future context. They respect the past, see the current reality, and envision the future. “A truly holistic visionary view takes into account the history of the organization, the rules and policies, the people, and the vision.”(1) God’s leaders take into account the history of his people recorded in the Holy Scriptures written for us to follow by example. They use the biblical commandments as a perfect standard to measure the present spiritual reality of their ministry. They envision that their followers each day would be a little more like Christ in behavior and they lead their people towards the ultimate vision of Christ returning in glory. Follow great leaders only as they follow Christ.

The Lion’s Prey

“My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight.”
Daniel 6:22

Imagine if a hungry lion was roaming around outside your home waiting for an opportunity to devour you. Of course it would be very dangerous to venture outside of the protection of the house and you certainly would not want to open any doors to let the lion run inside to attack you. This may seem unlikely unless you live in an African jungle but the Bible reminds us to be watchful because “our adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) Straying out of the protective will of God puts us on the devil’s dinner menu. Disobeying the Lord’s commandments makes us vulnerable in the guiltiness of our sin. We open the doors by following the desires of our sinful nature (Galatians 5:19) and provide the opportunity for Satan to enter our lives through sinful temptations. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. (James 1:14-15) But thank God, we are no longer lion’s prey since we have been found innocent because God gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
